The STAR Technique


Use the STAR Technique to formulate answers to many interview questions, particularly behavior-based questions.

It is helpful to think about 4 or 5 situations and clarify what the situation or problem was, how you handled it and what were the results, what did you accomplish. If you prepare ahead of time, these situations can be used to answer a number of interview questions.

Situation Examples:

  • Difficult professional situation
  • Your education and experience did not prepare you for a task
  • A time you tried very hard but failed
  • A "leader" wasn't leading
  • You were over committed
  • A conflict situation
