Objective:
- Short specific statement that includes position, industry,
and/or relevant skills
- If interested in more than one kind of work, have multiple
resumes with tailored objectives
- Example: Electrical engineer position in digital signal
processing, telecommunications or related area
Summary of Qualifications:
- Optional but highly recommended for experienced
professionals
- Example: Experienced consultant with five years experience
in information technology. Strong project management skills
with extensive knowledge in statistical processes.
Education:
- Name of institution, city and state
- Degree, major and year awarded
- List most recent degree first. Do not list high school
unless a freshman.
- Major academic scholarships and awards
- GPA (optional, recommended if over 3.0)
- Doctoral candidates, dissertation title/topic and name
of advisor
- Relevant courses that support your employment interests and
focus (omit course numbers and courses commonly taken by all
in your major)
- If you have relevant work experience, consider omitting relevant
courses

Experience:
- Focus on experiences that support your objective
- Relevant, current or last positions with most recent
experience typically listed first
- Senior design projects or other classroom related experiences

- Avoid over use of the same verbs, omit pronouns, spell out

General Tips
- Use 10 to 12 point font
- Bold for emphasis, but use sparingly
- One page is the norm, unless a Ph.D. or have extensive relevant
experience
- Graduate students should include publications and presentations
- If work experience is limited, emphasize educational experience
and skills
